welcome + the pc running this site

2025-11-24

welcome, this is the first blog post i'm officially writing for the site. it feels strange to be writing to potentially nobody, but important nonetheless. i can't count the number of times i've ended up visiting a random page that's documenting some process or giving advice that helps with one specific niche. that's the beautiful thing about the internet, connecting people who would have never met otherwise, and allowing them to share ideas asyncronously. together, we essentially create this hive-mind of information. one where we're all collaborating, all the time, and all you have to do is look.

i certainly wouldn't be here if it weren't for those who put in the work to make resources for self-hosting readily available. many thanks to the team behind YunoHost and Eleventy in particular, as that's how this page is being served and created, respectively (more on that later). all the people contributing to FOSS are unsung heroes of the modern digital world, enabling ordinary folks like me to create on their own. and ideally, in turn, this enables others to follow suit in some form. if any post i make here ever connects with someone, whether it helps with a specific idea or just makes them feel seen, then i think it's all worth it.

Lenovo ThinkCentre running the site

that's you! or at least...how you're here right now

the hardware this website is running on: a refurbished Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 picked up from MicroCenter for ~100-USD. it has 128gb ssd which is plenty for now, though i might need to add external drives in the future...if i record enough archive tapes. it's LAN is hooked up to an AT&T box, which thankfully has a way for users to configure IPs to communicate externally (ie. host a port for others to access).
